Identifying Lead-Free Certification Marks

As of January 4, 2014, the “Reduction of Lead Drinking Water Act” became effective and reduces the amount of lead in brass for all products in contact with drinking water (except fire hydrants) to 0.25% minimum lead content for all wetted components using a surface-based average formula. Manufacturers of products used on potable water lines must use materials that comply with the new law.

How can one be sure that the waterworks products they are purchasing comply? Insisting on NSF/ANSI 372 certification is the best way to ensure that the products purchased and installed are fully compliant with the new “lead-free brass” law. All Kupferle products that contain “lead-free brass” have been tested and certified as meeting the new standard. Insist on certification when purchasing any materials used in potable water systems to be ensured of compliance!

This document from the EPA will help you identify which products need to comply with this lead-free law as well as how to identify lead-free certification marks.
